Imo humble and correct opinon gyms are only necessary for their free weights section (meaning you want to train for strength).

If you want a decent physique you can achieve it from home with a pair of cheap dumbbells and high rep bodyweight movements. Plus it’s much more time effective to do so.
 
It's unpopular because gym bros have grown to see the gym as like their temple. But for 90% of people in the gym, the physique they want can be achieved at home with dumbbells, body weight and resistance bands.
